Liana Kuyumcuyan

Eindhoven (Netherlands)

I am a social designer and editor born in Istanbul, Turkey in 1994. I graduated from the Industrial Design department from Istanbul Bilgi University in 2017. I am currently studying for my master's degree in the Social Design department of Design Academy Eindhoven, Holland. My aim is to develop and improve designers' position and involvement in creating safe, social and democratic spaces in spatial planning disciplines.

I am experiencing and using methodologies regarding research, observation, and collaboration to transform issues of urban status quo into social design outputs or spatial installations. As a freelancer, I have been working as an editor for Design Unlimited, which is one of the few Turkish magazines focusing on thematic design concepts converging with politics, social issues, and global trends. I have been also remotely in collaboration with a city-based association, Center for Spatial Justice in Istanbul, which aims to publicly project urban/rural inequalities in Turkey. It is an organization for establishing democratic and equal living spaces. I have been an active designer regarding social matters, an investigative researcher in design media and an avid volunteer in social placemaking projects so far.
